Özet
Objective: The scope of this study was to adapt two important measurement tools from the body image literature: theObjectified Body Consciousness Scale (OBCS) and the Self-Objectification Questionnaire (SOQ). These instruments areimportant in the assessment of eating and feeding disorders. The objectified body consciousness scale has three subscales:body surveillance, body shame, and control beliefs. Although the two scales had been translated to Turkish before, thepsychometric properties had not been studied in detail.Method: The instruments were adapted to Turkish via the translation and back-translation method. Confirmatory factoranalyses and validity and reliability analyses were conducted. Results: Of the three subscales of the OBCS, control beliefs produced weak values. For the SOQ, item 2 “health” did not loadunder its factor and was eliminated from further analyses. Conclusion: The results suggest that both the OBCS and the SOQ have satisfactory psychometric qualities. Strengths andlimitations of the study have been discussed.
