Özet
Background: Antibiotic resistance, which occurs as a result of incorrect and unnecessary use of antibiotics, is an important public health problem. Children’s antibiotic use is managed by their families. Objective: This study was carried out to the effect of the health literacy levels of parents with children aged 0-12 on rational antibiotic use. Methods: This descriptive and relational study was conducted with 708 parents in three Family Health Centers between December 2021-March 2022. Data were collected with descriptive information form, parental perceptions on antibiotics scale, health-literacy scale. Mean, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, pearson correlation, and regression analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: Parents’ perception of rational antibiotic use is mostly related to health insurance (?=-6.57), mother’s education level (?=5.15), antibiotic use in the last year (?=1.78), place of residence (?=-1.47) and health literacy level (?). =.444). Conclusion: It was found that parents’ perceptions of rational antibiotic use were affected by health literacy levels and some socio-demographic characteristics. It is recommended that health literacy training be given to increase the rational antibiotic use perceptions of parents, especially in risk groups. © 2023, Dokuz Eylul University.
