The aim of this study is to examine the effect of negative automatic thoughts on working memory performance in adolescents. In addition, it was evaluated whether sociodemographic variables made a significant difference on negative automatic thoughts and working memory scores. In this context, data were collected from a total of 157 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 16 residing in İzmir using the convenience sampling technique. The research was planned as a cross-sectional study and was carried out with the relational survey model. In the study, "Sociodemographic Information Form", "Negative Automatic Thoughts Scale for Children" and WISC-IV subtests, "Number Series", "Letter-Number Series" and "Arithmetic" were applied to the participants. Raw scores obtained from WISC-IV were converted into standard scores and used in data analysis in this way. Independent sample t test was used for the two-group comparisons for the analysis of the data, and ANOVA was used for the comparison of more than two groups. The effect of negative automatic thoughts of adolescents on working memory performance was determined by regression analysis. According to the findings obtained after the analysis; When the effect of negative automatic thoughts of adolescents on working memory performance is evaluated; It was determined that the physical threat sub-dimension of negative automatic thoughts had a negative effect on working memory. One unit of physical threat alone explains 9.9% of working memory. It has been determined that when a unit of physical threat increases, there will be a 41.9% decrease in working memory. In addition, the relationship between the level of success perception and negative automatic thoughts, and the positive relationship between working memory performance; On the other hand, it was found that screen time was positively correlated with negative automatic thoughts and negatively correlated with working memory performance.
