Öğe Can patient-physician interview skills be implemented with peer simulated patients?(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2022) Tengiz, Funda İfakat; Sezer, Hale; Başer, Aysel; Şahin, HaticeIntroduction Patient-physician interviewing skills are crucial in health service delivery. It is necessary for effective care and treatment that the physician initiates the interview with the patient, takes anamnesis, collects the required information, and ends the consultation. Different methods are used to improve patient-physician interview skills before encountering actual patients. In the absence of simulated patients, peer simulation is an alternative method for carrying out the training. This study aims to show whether patient-physician interview skills training can be implemented using peer simulation in the absence of the simulated patient. Methods This is a descriptive quantitative study. This research was conducted in six stages: identification of the research problem and determination of the research question, development of data collection tools, planning, acting, evaluation, and monitoring. The data were collected via the patient-physician interview videos of the students. The research team performed descriptive analysis on quantitative data and thematic analysis on qualitative data. Results Fifty students participated in the study. When performing peer-assisted simulation applications in the absence of simulated patients, the success rate in patient-physician interviews and peer-simulated patient roles was over 88%. Although the students were less satisfied with playing the peer-simulated patient role, the satisfaction towards the application was between 77.33% and 98%. Discussion and Conclusion In patient-physician interviews, the peer-simulated patient method is an effective learning approach. There may be difficulties finding suitable simulated patients, training them, budgeting to cover the costs, planning, organizing the interviews, and solving potential issues during interviews. Our study offers an affordable solution for students to earn patient-physician interview skills in faculties facing difficulties with providing simulated patients for training.Öğe The effect of Pico Game on nursing diagnosis and problem-solving skills of students(2022) İsmailoğlu, Elif Günay; Sezer, HaleObjective This research was conducted to determine the effect of the PICO game on students’ problem-solving skills as well as their ability to determine the diagnosis and planning in the nursing process. The aim of study was to evaluate the views of different stakeholders on coaching practice and the costs. Methods Data was collected between October 2015 and December 2016. The student dimension was evaluated using the Coaching Process Evaluation Scale with sophomore (n=237) and junior (n=219). Data was collected from the faculty member (n=18) using Critical Incidents Technique and from the educational managers (n=7) through in-depth interviews. The 2015-2016 educational program was analyzed for cost analysis. Results Student evaluations of the Coaching Process Evaluation Scale demonstrated mean scores of 66.68 +/- 0.85 for the Observed Coaching Skills subscale. There were four headlines (use of coaching skills, benefiting from the Coaching Process, Emotions, and Reflection) which were also observed in the faculty members data which revealed a total of 60 codes from positive and negative incidents. The educational managers, on the other hand, stressed three categories and the emotions category, which emerged in the students and faculty was not found among the educational managers. The per student cost of practice education increase sixfold from the freshman year to the junior year. Conclusions The perception and views on coaching practices of educational managers, faculty members, and students are positive and support each other. This provides an important opportunity for the placement of coaching practices into education programs in nursing.
