Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained recognition as a valuable treatment option in orthopedic medicine for accelerating tissue repair. This chapter focuses on the use of PRP in the treatment of hip disorders, including hip osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, hamstring tendinopathy, adductor tendinopathy, and muscle strains around the hip. PRP is derived from the patient's own blood and contains various growth factors and bioactive molecules that promote tissue regeneration. In hip osteoarthritis, PRP injections have shown promising results in improving functional scores compared to traditional treatments, although no significant structural changes have been observed. In avascular necrosis of the femoral head, PRP has been used both as a nonsurgical injection and as an adjuvant in surgical procedures, demonstrating positive outcomes in select cases. For hamstring and adductor tendinopathies, PRP injections have yielded positive outcomes, reducing pain intensity and facilitating a faster return to activity. Additionally, PRP has shown promise in the treatment of adductor and hamstring tendinopathy, exhibiting a reduction in the size of the lesion and improved functional outcomes. Moreover, PRP has been used in the treatment of muscle strains around the hip. While PRP offers advantages such as simplicity and safety, image-guided methods are often required for accurate administration. © 2024 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
