Öğe Investigating the Association Between Internet Addiction, Depression, Social Phobia, Social Anxiety and Psychiatric Disorders Among Secondary Education Students in Turkey(Galenos Publ House, 2022) Yildiz, Eren; Sen, Zeynep Savas; Gunuc, Selim; Alioglu, Bulent; Yilmaz, ArzuIntroduction: The purpose of the study is to identify the prevalence of Internet addiction (IA) among students and evaluate the association of IA with depression, social phobia, social anxiety and psychiatric disorders. Materials and Methods: A total of 297 students aged 9-14 years and studying at a private school in Golbasi/Ankara province were included in the study. The study was conducted between November 2015 and May 2016. The student's depression inventory; social phobia scale for student and adolescents; social anxiety scale for student-revised and strength and difficulties questionnaire were used as data collection tools. According to the Internet dependency scale, student were classified into 4 groups as non-addicted group, threshold group, risk group and addicted group. Results: According to the Internet dependency scale, the majority (258/86.9%) of the students were not Internet addicts. Twenty seven (9.1%) students were in the threshold group and 12 (4%) student were in the risk group. Compared with the depressed mood, the likelihood of having depression in the risk group was higher (p=0.001). The risk group and the threshold group had higher social phobia and social anxiety scores at a statistically significant level than the non-dependent group (p <= 0.05). Conclusion: Internet use is an indispensable element for the lives of generation-Z student. However Internet addiction, which is directly related to this condition, causes many psychological and social problems for student at an alarming level. These problems cannot be ignored and can be avoided by rational use of the internet.Öğe Investigation of the relationships between ADHD risk and digital screen exposure in children aged 4-11: A large population study in Turkey(Wiley, 2022) Gunuc, SelimThis study investigated whether some factors regarding especially pregnancy and post-pregnancy and 0-36-month-old infants' exposure to digital screens played a role in the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) scores of 4-11-year-old children. The cross-sectional research method was used. The sample consisted of the mothers of 2835 (48.2%) daughters and 3042 (51.8%) sons. The children of the mothers in the sample were between 4 and 11 years old. The mothers were asked to fill in the personal information form about their children and the Conners Parent Rating Scale to determine the ADHD score of the child. The main results revealed associations between ADHD and digital screen exposure at 0-36 months. In conclusion, exposure to digital screen-whether much or little-for the purposes of feeding, silencing, distraction, language acquisition, and digital gaming might pose a serious risk for ADHD.Öğe Investigation of the Relationships Between Beck Depression/Anxiety Scores and Neuropsychological Tests Scores with Lifestyle Behaviors in the Context of Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis Approach(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2023) Gunuc, Selim; Koylu, Ersin O.In this study, the relationships between lifestyle behaviors within the scope of neuroplasticity and neu-rogenesis approach and depression, anxiety and neuropsychological test scores were examined. As this study aimed to reveal the relationships between events or variables, it was designed using the descriptive cross-sectional study method, one of descriptive and relational research methods, was used. The data were collected from 117 students by the researchers using the O center dot sion Inventory, Beck Anxiety Scale and Lifestyle Behaviors Survey. According to the results, the quality of sport/ exercise and the quality of life showed a significant difference in the depression model, while social support demonstrated a significant difference in the anxiety model. It was seen that those with high scores in life quality and in perceived social support had significantly lower depression and anxiety scores. Moreover, those with good levels of sleep quality, social interaction and nutrition had significantly lower depression scores. Both depression and anxiety scores of those who did sport/exercise, which was among the lifestyle behaviors, were found to be significantly lower. Lastly, the correlations between the neuropsychological test scores and the depression and anxiety scores were examined, and a significant positive correlation was found between both depression and anxiety scores and the failure to maintain set scores.(c) 2023 IBRO.
