Based on study results, it is suggested to organize national cervical screening programs to increase public's knowledge and awareness on the subject in accordance with the sociocultural norms of the society with the agreement and cooperation of educated health service providers, policy makers, and educators.Öğe The effect of prolonged use of surgical masks during face-to-face teaching on cognitive and physiological parameters of nursing students: A cross-sectional and descriptive study(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2023) Sezer, Hale; Cinar, Derya; Akca, Nazan KilicAims: This study was conducted to examine the effects of using surgical masks on nursing students' cognitive and physiological parameters during full-time face-to-face teaching during the pandemic. Background: It is known that the use of surgical masks has effects on health professionals' physiological parameters.Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study with a pretest-posttest design was conducted. The study was carried out at a state university. Methods: Sixty-one nursing students taking Internal Medicine Nursing course in the fall semester during the COVID-19 pandemic were included in the study. Study data were collected by using a Descriptive Information Form, the Cognitive Fatigue Scale, the One-way Dyspnea Scale and the Cognitive Reaction Time application in a theoretical course that took 310 min on 15 November 2021. Students' physiological parameters were measured by using a thermometer and pulse oximetry. Results: It was found that students' cognitive fatigue levels (p < 0.001) and body temperature increased (p < 0.001) and that cognitive reaction rates (p = 0.05) and pulse rates decreased (p < 0.001). It was determined that after the lesson, there was a weak positive correlation between nursing students' level of dyspnea and body temperature and their cognitive fatigue levels (p < 0.05).Conclusions: It was determined that the use of surgical masks during full-time face-to-face teaching increased students' cognitive fatigue and decreased their cognitive reaction rates. The research will have an impact on redesigning the curriculum for face-to-face teaching. Lecturers should revise their teaching by taking these findings into account.Öğe Effects of virtual reality application on pain, anxiety, and vital signs due to port catheter needle insertion: Randomized controlled study(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2025) Ibek, Esra; Cinar, DeryaPurpose: This study aims to examine the effects of virtual reality applications on pain, anxiety, and vital signs during port catheter needle insertion in adult cancer patients. Methods: The research followed a randomized controlled design as intervention and control groups. In the intervention group, patients received virtual reality sessions with five images in addition to routine procedures during the port catheter needle insertion. We measured the pain, anxiety, and vital parameters resulting from the port catheter needle insertion. Assessments were measured twice: at baseline (before port catheter needle insertion, T0) and at the end of the proceduce (after port catheter needle insertion, T1). Results: The virtual reality application significantly reduced the levels of pain (p=0.45) and anxiety (p<0.001) at T1 in the intervention group compared to the control group. The virtual reality application showed no difference between T0 and T1 in the vital parameters of the intervention group. Conclusions: Virtual reality application during the port catheter needle insertion procedure reduced pain levels and anxiety levels in cancer patients. The virtual reality applications to reduce pain and anxiety levels during the port catheter needle insertion procedure can be recommended.Öğe Health Protection And Improvement Sensitivity For Covid-19 Pandemic: Turkey's Case(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Ergin, Eda; Sezer, Hale; Cinar, Derya; Ozturk, Seren DuzenliThis descriptive study was aimed at identifying the anxiety levels of Turkish people in the first three months of the pandemic, the coping methods they use to control this anxiety, and their knowledge and behavior about protection and prevention against COVID-19. The data were collected from 571 individuals. Of the individuals, 84.6% had anxiety. The anxiety levels of those who kept working during the pandemic were significantly higher than were the anxiety levels of those who did not (p < .05). The participants experienced a moderate level of anxiety, and they mostly used relaxation techniques, music therapy, and prayer/worship to cope with anxiety. The knowledge level of the individuals about COVID-19 was moderate.Öğe Investigation of the Cultural Competence Levels of Diabetes Nurses(Marmara Univ, Inst Health Sciences, 2022) Cinar, Derya; Olgun, Nermin; Koyuncu, AynurObjective: It is important for nurses to have cultural competence in order to keep up with the cultural diversity brought by globalization. In this study, we aim to examine the cultural competence levels of diabetes nurses in diabetes education and care in accordance with the cultural characteristics of individuals with diabetes. Methods: This study was conducted in a cross-sectional descriptive type with 183 diabetes nurses between September 15 and December 15, 2020 in Turkey. The data were collected using the Introductory Information Form and the Nurse Cultural Competence Scale. Results: We determine that almost all of the diabetes nurses had cultural competence above the average. We find that having a postgraduate degree from diabetes nurses, receiving cultural education before, and having a diabetes nurse experience of 6 years or more affected the cultural competence levels (p<0.05). Conclusion: This research shows that diabetes nurses in Turkey have cultural competence in providing care to individuals with diabetes from different cultures, and that education and experience affect this situation. It is predicted that diabetes nurses will contribute to the selfmanagement of individuals with diabetes by implementing strategies to improve their cultural competence.Öğe Parent Quality of Life scale in Type 1 Diabetes: a scale development and validation study(Springer, 2023) Binay Yaz, Seyda; Cinar, DeryaThe study aimed to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Parental Quality of Life Scale in Type 1 Diabetes for parents.
