Öğe Difficulties for Mothers: Home Care of Babies Born Preterm(Bezmialem Vakif Univ, 2021) Özberk, Hülya; Çiçek, Özlem; Ayar, Dijle; Okumuş, HülyaMothers who had preterm labor were expected to face difficulties with baby care during the postnatal period. This study aimed to review studies on difficulties experienced by mothers who had premature labor regarding childcare at home during the postnatal period. The literature review was carried out between 2000 and 2019 in databases of PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane library, ULAKBIM, Google Scholar, and EMBASE. Mothers who had preterm labor experienced difficulties with diaper use, bathing, umbilical cord care, baby feeding, skin-to-skin contact, and recognition of newborn crying. Therefore, mothers need the support of health professionals for the health status of the newborn and their lack of self-confidence regarding baby care. However, the lack of home care guidelines leaves mothers helpless in meeting these needs. Mothers should be ready for the care of babies born preterm. For this reason, mothers who had preterm labor should be informed about the potential difficulties during their stay in the hospital. Mothers also need to be educated about the care of infants born preterm in the postnatal period. Thus, mothers can experience the home care process positively by becoming fully prepared to take the responsibility for home care. Developing clinical guidelines for postnatal care of babies born preterm can help reduce the concerns of mothers, shorten hospital stay, and reduce morbidity risks.Öğe The Effect of Nursing Students' Liking of Children and Attitudes Toward Clinical Practice on Their Comfort and Worry Levels in the Pediatric Clinic(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2024) Kudubes, Asli Akdeniz; Zengin, Hamide; Ayar, Dijle; Bektaş, İlknur; Bektas, MuratThis research was conducted as a descriptive and cross-sectional study to determine the effects of nursing students' liking of children and attitudes toward clinical practice on their comfort and worry levels in the pediatric clinic. The research was carried out with 270 nursing students who had already taken or were taking the child health and diseases nursing course. Data were collected using a Nursing Student Information Form, the Barnett Liking of Children Scale, the Nursing Students' Attitudes toward Clinical Practices Scale, and the Pediatric Nursing Student Clinical Comfort and Worry Assessment Tool. Mean values, percentage calculations, and linear regression analysis were used for the analysis of the research data. Participants' mean scores were 52.30 +/- 6.16 on the Barnett Liking of Children Scale, 103.72 +/- 19.35 on the Nursing Students' Attitudes toward Clinical Practices Scale, 15.61 +/- 3.74 on the comfort sub-dimension, and 11.63 +/- 4.32 on the worry sub-dimension of the Pediatric Nursing Student Clinical Comfort and Worry Assessment Tool. It was determined that the liking of children and attitudes toward clinical practice explained 43.6% of the clinical comfort level of pediatric nursing students in Model 1 and 45.2% of their clinical worry level in Model 2. It was determined that the liking of children and attitudes toward clinical practice significantly affected the comfort and worry levels of nursing students in the pediatric clinic.Öğe EFFECTS OF SPOUSAL SUPPORT IN THE EARLY POSTPARTUM PERIOD ON BREASTFEEDING MOTIVATION IN PATRIARCHAL SOCIETIES(Dokuz Eylul Univ Inst Health Sciences, 2023) Uludag, Elif; Ayar, Dijle; Bektas, IlknurPurpose: Breastfeeding is important with regard to public health. Our aim was to examine effects of spousal support in the early postpartum period on breastfeeding motivation in patriarchal societies.Material and Methods: Study was descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational design. Study was conducted in a pediatrics outpatient clinic of University Hospital in Inland Anatolia Region in Turkey. It included primiparous (n=145) and multiparous (n=152) women. Data were collected by using Demographic Data Collection Form, The Scale of Perceived Spousal Support among Women in the Early Postpartum Period and The Breastfeeding Motivation Scale. Descriptive and Simple linear regression analyses were conducted in this study. Results: Analysis showed a significant positive, moderate relation between spousal support and breastfeeding motivation in the primiparous women; spousal support accounted for 23.8% of breastfeeding motivation of the women. There was a significant, positive weak relation between spousal support and breastfeeding motivation in the multiparous women; spousal support explained 8.2% of breastfeeding motivation in these women. Conclusion: Spousal support in the early postpartum period was found to have a positive influence on improvement of breastfeeding motivation. However, it could explain a small percentage of breastfeeding motivation. New strategies should be created to encourage spouses to get involved in breastfeeding.Öğe The predictive power of disease management of parents with children with cancer on fatigue and sleepiness levels(Springer, 2023) Akdeniz Kudubes, Asli; Bektas, Murat; Ayar, Dijle; Bektas, IlknurThis study was conducted as a descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional research to determine the predictive power of disease management of parents of children with cancer on fatigue and sleepiness levels. Study data were collected by using a Parent Information Form, the Chalder Fatigue Scale, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the Family Management Measure. Mean scores, percentage calculations, Pearson correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis were used in the analysis of data. Three models were created according to the relationship between the variables in the multiple regression analysis. In Model 1, the first sub-dimension of the disease management scale explained 59.7% of the level of fatigue and sleepiness. In Model 2, the second sub-dimension of the disease management scale explained 69.4% of the level of fatigue and sleepiness. In Model 3, the third sub-dimension of the disease management scale explained 67.5% of the level of fatigue and sleepiness. Childhood cancer is a family disease that affects parents as well as children. This is an important study revealing the effect of chronic disease management on the fatigue and daytime sleepiness of parents with children with cancer. Considering the outcomes of this study, nurses should be aware of the possible effects of disease management on the level of fatigue and daytime sleepiness. Nurses should not forget that families who cannot manage chronic diseases effectively and successfully may have high levels of fatigue and sleepiness.
